SOPHIE WAS OUR BEAUTIFUL PRINCESS THAT WAS BORN TO EARLY AT 21 WEEKS. SHE WAS PERFECT IN EVERY WAY.
SOPHIE WAS WITH US FOR ONLY 3 HOURS BEFORE SHE FELL ASLEEP AND WENT TO PLAY WITH HER COUSIN GEORGIA
CURRAN IN GODS GARDEN.
We found out i was pregnant on the 25th February 2008,we were over the moon as we had only been
trying for 1 month. We couldnt wait to tell everyone, especially your 2 older brothers Des 18 and
Brad 11. Brad went out and bought you a play mat it is pink and blue because we didnt know what sex
you were. then on 21st March 2008 Good Friday i was at work when i started bleeding so i went
straight to the hospital. Daddy met me there the doctor examined me and told me to go home as i was
only 7 weeks they just let nature take its course, and to come back on Sunday for blood tests to
check if you were still there. we went to the hospital at 2 they did the test and we had to phone
back at 6 for the results, it was the longest 4 hours we have ever had to wait. when i phoned at 6
the midwife told me the you was still there and i had to book an appointment for a scan on the
tuesday to check you were ok. me and Daddy went for the scan, I couldnt look until Daddy said he
could see your heart beat. the sigh of relief that you was still alive. there was a little bleed but
nothing to worry about as it was not near you.The bleeding carried on for a week or so then 2 weeks
later i got up on Friday morning and had started to bleed really heavy so we went straight to A&E
there they did a swab and sent me home saying to expect the worst in the next couple of hours. If i
didnt lose you over the weekend i was to go for another scan on the monday. So we went home Daddy
wouldnt let me do any thing he told me to go to bed until Monday which is what i did then on Monday
morning i made an appointment for a scan. Everything was ok you still alive and kicking away and the
bleed had gone. next couple of weeks were not easy with one water infection then another but that
didnt matter you was still wriggling about. then it was time for my 13 week scan everything seemed
fine but as a precaution they booked me in for my next scan at 19 weeks.We had decided to have the
triple test which came back at 1/125 which is quite high but to us it didnt matter you was still our
baby so didnt have any more test to see if you did have downs. The day came for the scan me and
Daddy were so excited because we had decided to find out what sex you were. As they were checking
all your organs. I asked if they could check for down's on the scan, i was told no however a common
sign is a defect in the heart. As they were checking we noticed that they kept scaning your heart,
this is where our hearts sank, blood was not passing through your valves properly and she couldnt
find your bladder, which was nothing to worry about as you could of just emptied your bladder. When
we asked what sex you were Daddy bet you was a boy and i said Girl and i was right. we were booked
in for a more detailed scan 21 weeks where they checked your heart two of the valves were not
working properly and still they could not see your bladder. They decided to refer me to liverpool
womens hospital. On Sunday 22nd June 2008 i started with another water infection by monday morning
the pain was so bad that i phoned the hospital and they advised me to come in just to be checked
over, Daddy came with me, they decided to keep me in and told Daddy to go home as i needed rest and
was not allowed visitors. i tried to sleep but i was in too much pain. when the nurses started to do
test on me they noticed that my temperature was high and mine and your heart rate was too fast, so
they sent for a doctor who decided to take me up to the labour ward as it was quiet and i could get
a one to one. a midwife called Jayne looked after me all night. Your Daddy was on the phone until
4am worried about us, i just kept telling him to take his tablets and go to sleep and that we were
fine and he could come and see us tomorrow. then just after 4 i had a little bleed so i told Jayne
she got the on call doctor who came out with in 5 mins and checked me over she took a swab, and said
that this can happen with a water infection. by this time the pain seemed to be easing and it was
not constant just every now and then, i joked with Jayne about labour wasnt this painful. at 6am i
went to the toilet Jayne asked me if a fancied a cup of tea. then the next minute you was in my
hands. I pulled the emergency cord but because i had gone into the toilet i had locked the door,
luckily jayne had a knife handy and manage to take the lock off the door. The neonatal nurses came
in Jayne cut your cord and then they took you away while i was being seen to. i was put back in bed
they asked me if i wanted to hold you i was so scared i didnt want to hold you, when Jayne said you
was alive i felt a sigh of relief they brought you to me wrapped up in a mint green blanket which we
still have, the nurses told me you would probably only live a couple of hours as your where only 21
weeks gestation and they dont do anything to help you. So i tried phoning Daddy but he had only took
his tablets after 4 so there was no way of waking him up. eventually he woke up and came to the
hospital about 7am. We had you christened Sophie Rose Glynn, then you fell asleep in your Daddy's
arms at 9 am. We our so Proud of you for fighting to stay with us. We stayed with you until 7pm. It
was the most heart braking thing was to leave you there alone in the hospital.
